Minor Planet Occultations

(105) Artemis on 18 August 2010

Here the image of the occultation is combined with a trial image taken with exactly the same exposure but 45 minutes earlier. The animation shows the trail of (105) Artemis to the north of the star in the earlier exposure and as the minor planet passes directly in front of the star in the second exposure, it is again visible as the faint streak in the middle of the interrupted star trail.
